On the Buses

In the original 1971 “On the Buses” film a Reliant Regal 3/30 appears several times out side one of the houses of Jack’s “bit of stuff” along with a Reliant Regal Mk 6 parked in the street. Other On the Buses films also contain the odd Reliant like the Reliant Rebel shown in the film, Mutiny on the Buses.

In the original 1977 Star Wars film, the “Land Speeder” that was driven by Luke Skywalker was actually built around the chassis of a Bond Bug to form a 3-wheeled vehicle.  The wheels were later masked out on the film to produce the hover-car that we see in the film. Mirrors were also used on the underside to create the effect of it hovering above the ground.

The Comic Strip presents “Supergrass”

The lady in the van

ladyvan2

This 2015 film starring Maggie Smith and Alex Jennings is about a lady who lives in a van. Based on a true story by Alan Bennet, one of the vans Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith) lived in was a Reliant Regal Supervan, on screen this has changed to a Reliant Robin van.  Interestingly it has a fake registration plate of LLE 92L that may have originally been on a Regal but was far to early for a Robin with only a handful of prototype models being registered on a L reg plate.

The Krays

In this 1989 film about the Kray twins starring Martin Kemp and Gary Kemp a red Reliant Regal Mk V is seen.

Toast

In this 2010 BBC movie based on Nigel Slater’s book of the same name about his child hood days, a Reliant Regal MK VI van was used by the elderly gardener.  The van used was Elvis Payne’s old van, more information about the filming can be seen here.
